I chose to schedule a prenatal lactation consult in efforts to educate myself and feel ready and empowered for my breastfeeding journey with my second baby. My consultation with Gulf Coast Lactation did just that. With my first baby, I ended up exclusively pumping simply due to lack of education and confidence. My experience with my second baby has been such a different and positive journey so far. During my consult, we discussed appropriate feedings by age, milk storage guidelines, healthy nutrition for breastfeeding and practiced several positions. Scotty provided resources that I was able to read over again closer to delivery for a refresher. Our first feeding was so easy and comfortable due to the tips I received from my consultation. Even our nursery nurses were impressed with the ease of her first feed! I delivered on a weekend so I did not see a lactation consultant while in the hospital so I am very glad I had this foundation.

I scheduled a visit with GCL a week after being home simply because I knew Scotty would have more tips and reassurance to provide. She performed a weighted feed and provided so many tangible tips. I have continued to attend the community breastfeeding support groups hosted by Gulf Coast Lactation, which has helped me connect with other breastfeeding moms. These resources have helped me successfully breastfed my daughter for 6 weeks now and have prepared me to return to work confidently while continuing to breastfeed!

I am so thankful for GCL and their services. Melanie is our lifesaver !! My baby had to stay in the special care unit right after delivery so our breastfeeding journey didn’t not start till about a week after she was born. Melanie has been there for us and has helped us get to where we are now and for that I just couldn’t thank her enough. I almost gave up on breastfeeding but because of the support Melanie had given my little girl and I, I am so thankful I did not. She is always checking in on us and seeing how we are doing.
