In early 2025, a sudden shift in insurance partnerships left over 80% of families on the Gulf Coast without affordable access to lactation services. In response, Scotty Thomson and the Gulf Coast Lactation team stepped up to fill the void. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our community, we successfully opened the Gulf Coast Lactation Center in Daphne in August 2025. What began as an emergency response has grown into a permanent sanctuary for prenatal and postpartum care.​

 

To everyone who has donated to our cause, thank you. We truly would not have been able to continue serving mothers, babies, and families through this transition without your support. Your generosity built the walls of our center and kept our doors open during a critical time for local families.​

 

We are thrilled to announce that Gulf Coast Lactation is now accepting insurance: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Cigna, and UnitedHealthcare. This is a major milestone in making professional IBCLC care sustainable and accessible.​

 

While we are excited to accept insurance, our mission as a non-profit remains unchanged: feeding your baby should never depend on your insurance card. We continue to provide vital free resources to those without insurance coverage or those facing financial barriers, including:

• Weekly Breastfeeding Groups: A safe space for community and peer support.

• Free Educational Classes: Expert-led prenatal and postpartum breastfeeding education.​

 

We still need your support to continue providing these free community resources. While insurance covers many clinical visits, it does not fund our community outreach or the free services that so many families rely on.
