Scotty Thomson

RN, BSN, IBCLC

Scotty has 30 years of experience in maternal-child nursing and has been a certified lactation consultant since 1998.

In 2015, she reorganized the lactation services at Thomas Hospital (Fairhope, AL) and built a new program to more effectively serve breastfeeding mothers. She led a weekly Baby Cafe breastfeeding support group for 3 years that grew from 5-6 women a week to 18-25 a week.

She resigned from Labor and Delivery at USACW (Mobile, AL) in February 2023 to work full time with Gulf Coast Lactation helping women out of the hospital setting.. She has been instrumental in creating a supportive environment for all mothers.

Scotty continues to support women as they journey into motherhood. She is a member of ILCA (International Lactation Consultants Association) and the Alabama Breastfeeding Committee. She is passionate about holistic care in the maternal-child setting. She believes that all moms deserve a more holistic approach to continued support after leaving the hospital so they can be successful breastfeeding their babies.

A Bit About Me

Everybody has their own unique breastfeeding journey. I am the proud mother

of two children, Natalie and Nicholas. I breastfed them both and

found great joy and pride in my motherhood. Now that they are grown up, I find purpose in

helping new mothers find success in their breastfeeding journey.

 Sarah Carley McDavid

 RN, IBCLC

Sarah was born and raised here, in Mobile. She is married with 3 beautiful children: 12, 9, and 6 years old. She has been a Registered nurse for 18 years; 4 of those years spent in a local Pediatric Office, 11 years spent in the Neonatal ICU at Children’s and Women’s, and 2 years as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant ( IBCLC ) at Mobile Infirmary. Prior to getting her certification, Sarah spent more than 9 years breastfeeding her own children.

Though she was ultimately successful in her breastfeeding journey with each of them, it was not without loads of struggles. She faced latch issues, painful blistered nipples, plugged ducts, mastitis, biting, sleep issues, forceful letdown/oversupply, reflux, depression, anxiety, and milk/soy protein intolerances. You name it, and she probably experienced it. Overcoming these challenges and struggles gave her the desire and passion to help other moms successfully feed their babies. She is the oldest of 3 children and was the first in her group of friends to have a baby, so at times she felt like she had no support when it came to breastfeeding education and advice. As a NICU nurse, she thought she wouldn’t need any help and that everything would come naturally. Boy, was she wrong.

Sarah knows from personal experience that breastfeeding can be difficult and is aware that there are many barriers women face when feeding their babies. She wants moms to feel like they have a safe, empathetic, nonjudgmental person talk to. All moms deserve quality lactation support and she promises to do her best to provide it. Sarah looks forward to helping women with their unique breastfeeding journeys!
